[I; R0 = halo, alkyl, alkenyl, etc.; R1-R3 = H, halo,
alkyl, etc.; R2 also may be (un)substituted Ph, naphthyl,
pyridyl, etc.; n = 0-2], useful as intermediates for the
prepn. of known, herbicidally active 3-hydroxy-4-aryl-5-oxopyrazoline
derivs., were prepd. E.g., a 2-step synthesis of I [R0
= H; R1, R3 = Et; R2 = Me], starting with 2,6-diethyl-4-methylaniline. |

isothioureas I (R1 = alkyl, cycloalkyl; R2 = alkyl, cycloalkyl;
R3 = alkyl, cycloalkyl, halo; R4 = optionally substituted
alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl; R5 = alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl;
n = 0 - 2) and their salts, useful as insecticides and
acaricides (extensive data tabulated), were prepd. Thus,
2,6-(Me2CH)2C6H3NH2 was converted with CSCl2 into 2,6-(Me2CH)2C6H3NCS
which reacted with PrNH2 to give 2,6-(Me2CH)2C6H3NHCSNHPr.
This was alkylated with MeI or EtBr to give I (R1 = R2
= Me2CH, R3 = H, R4 = Pr, R5 = Me, Et). |
